Discovering God’s Calling for Your Life

I’ve heard a lot of people ask “What is God’s calling for my life?” I too have asked this. Wouldn’t it be nice just to know what God’s will is for us? Though I definitely can’t answer this question for you, there are some steps toward discovering God’s calling that I can share from what I’ve learned.

God’s Unique Plan

God has a general calling for all believers, but he also has specific callings for each person, and even more so specific callings each year and each day for each person. God’s calling for you will be crafted in a unique way just for you while also still fitting into his general calling for all believers. For example, God desires for everyone to be in a loving relationship with him and for each believer to take part in his great mission of sharing the gospel with the lost and unreached.

How he desires to use you to love others and share this great news will flow from who he’s created you to be. There’s a reason why you are you. You have something special that God has given you that no one else will be able to replicate. Call it a super power if you will. A hammer is an awesome tool, but have fun hammering in a screw. In the same way, you were crafted for a specific purpose that only you can do. And, God wires us a certain way so that it’s our joy to fulfill this calling.

Now doesn’t that sound too good to be true?

Discovering God’s Calling

The only difficulty with this awesome plan is that we have such a hard time figuring out what it is that God’s calling us to. There’s a lot of reasons why it’s so hard. Sometimes it’s hard for us to hear God’s voice. Sometimes we don’t even know what we want to do. Maybe we aren’t sure if it was actually God calling us to do something. Or, perhaps we just don’t want to go down the path we think God might be leading us toward because it doesn’t make sense or it’s too scary.

There’s a thousand different reasons why it’s hard, and I hope to address some of them in the next few weeks. Please comment below what your particular questions are so I can make sure to address them in coming blog posts.
